KC NATIVE PLANT INITIATIVE: DEEP ROOTS (KCNPI), ORGANIZATIONAL FORMATION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In late 2014 the Westport Garden Club organized a public lecture on the importance and potential to reintegrate ecologically sustainable landscapes into the cultural fabric and identity of Kansas City Metropolitan area. The groundswell of interest resulted in a group of 35 partner organizations began to meet as the Kansas City Native Plant Initiative to determine how working together would further the use, preservation and reintegration of native plants in the region. Christina helped to facilitate the process to determine the mission, organizational structure, and strategic plan for this new collective impact backbone organization, formed in April 2016.

KCNPI now has over 70 member organizations and Christina continues to serve as co-chair of the Strategic Planning Committee alongside Bob Berkebile. Current efforts are focused on defining and collecting shared measurements on regional projects. Measurements are collected in each of four goal areas. The plan is updated annually and the metrics are used for seeking grants and connecting partner organizations to projects and funding.
