South Round Top Development Plan
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In June of 2023, Hoxie Collective finished a project in partnership with the South Round Top Neighborhood Association, the Local Initiative Support Colation (LISC), Cannonball Development Group and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Department of Urban Planning and Design as well as the university's Center for Neighborhoods. This neighborhood development and resiliency plan includes implementation strategies for environmental cleanup and beautification, home repair, and stabilization. Thank you to our partners on the project team and especially to the group of students from UMKC for their hard work assisting with research for this project!
The South Round Top neighborhood is a historically significant African-American neighborhood located in Kansas City’s urban core in the 3rd District. Other proximate neighborhoods include Washington Wheatley, Santa Fe, Oak Park, and East 23rd Street PAC. The goal of this project was for Hoxie Collective and our partners to support the South Round Top Neighborhood in efforts to build their capacity, develop a housing strategy, create a plan to calm traffic and reduce collisions, and plan for the reuse of vacant lots.
